Gabrielle Ibasco

My research with the UBC Emotion and Self Lab examines how moral emotions and self-perceptions regulate group processes and intergroup relations. For example, in one line of research, I am investigating how self-conscious emotions at the group level—such as pride, guilt, and shame—could regulate one another and shape intergroup reconciliation. In a second project, I am investigating how experiences of discrimination shape existential meaning through an interplay of emotions (such as internalized shame) and cultural narratives about identity. In a third line of work, I am studying the subjective experience of different intrapsychic and group-based emotions, and developing measures that best distinguish among the subjective content of these emotions.
